Twin Multiverse Anime Films Drop First Visual!

Coming off the heels of two very popular multiversal movies, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Everything Everywhere All at Once, we have not one but two multiversal anime movies coming to theatres! And they both seem to focus on romance?

Twin Multiverse Anime Movies Announced! | Anime Senpai

Yep, it’s exactly as it sounds, two movies featuring a multiverse and both having romance as their main genre. You should be able to see the first visual for these two movies side by side up above. On the right we have To All of You That I Loved and on the left is To the Only Me Who Loved You.

Both movies open on October 7th and yes, before you ask they are related to each other. But there is a twist, the order in which you watch the two films will greatly change the way you feel about them. The duo films are adapting two light novels of the same name. Both light novels are written by Yomiji Otono, which were published simultaneously on June 23, 2016.

While commenting on the film announcement, the light novel author said: “This story is born from my own fantasy when I was in the second year of junior high school. In the infinite number of parallel worlds that exist, one of the happiest futures that this fantasy has led me to is the one that will be made into these films. Two films are being released simultaneously. They are made in a way that you can watch them from either side, and the order in which you watch the two films will greatly change the way you feel about them. I hope you will enjoy the choice you can only make once, which of the two films to see first”

The two films will be animated by different studios! The first movie, To All of You That I Loved, will be animated by Bakken Record. The second movie, To the Only Me Who Loved You will be animated by TMS Entertainment, the same studio that animated the likes of Dr. Stone, Rent-A-Girlfriend, and Fruits Basket.

Below you can find the synopsis for both movies. Let us know if they’ve piqued your interest! And more importantly, will you be watching?

Synopsis

The synopsis for “To All of You That I Loved” is as followed:

A world where it has been established that people routinely swing between slightly different parallel worlds…

Koyomi Takasaki, who lives with his mother following his parents’ divorce, enrolls in a local university prep school. Due to the atmosphere concentrated on studies and his social awkwardness, Koyomi is unable to make friends. One day, he is suddenly approached by his classmate Kazune Takigawa, who tells him that she has travelled from the 85th world where she and Koyomi are lovers.

The synopsis for “To the Only Me Who Loved You” is as followed:

A world where it has been established that people routinely swing between slightly different parallel worlds…

Koyomi Hidaka, who lives with his father following his parents’ divorce, meets a girl named Shiori Satou at the research institute where his father works. They both have a little crush on each other, but everything changes when their parents remarry. Koyomi and Shiori, convinced that they will never be together, try to jump into another world where they won’t be step-siblings… There’s no meaning in a world without her.

Release Date & Watching Order

As we’ve already mentioned both movies are set to open on the same day. That day being October 7th, 2022. Currently, there is no word or announcement of an overseas release.

Knowing that the two movies are related (once again take that with a grain of salt) and releasing on the same day one might wonder, which one should I watch first? Well, the answer is… Whichever you want! The two movies both tell their own stories and aren’t connected with each other (kinda). However, with that said, it is recommended that you watch “To All of You That I Loved” first as the second film “To the Only Me Who Loved You” will make small connections to the first.

With all that said, what do you all think of these films? After reading the synopsis for both have your opinions changed on whether it’s worth a watch or not? As always, we love to hear your opinions so be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below!
