Last week’s chapter of Black Clover gave us a lot to process, from the introduction of Paladins to Asta’s supposed death and much much more. Tabata dropped a bombshell of a chapter on us and it looks like the craziness of chapter 335 has come right on over to the latest chapter.
There is so much to cover with this week’s chapter so let’s not waste any time and get right into it!
Chapter 335 Recap
Before we jump into spoilers for chapter 336, let’s recap what went down in the previous chapter of the series, titled ‘Severance.’ Be sure to read the chapter yourself; you can find it for free and officially below!
The chapter opens up with the two “true humans”, Lucius and Sister Lily floating above Asta watching as he bleeds out on a nearby rooftop after sustaining an injury from Lucius. Hovering there with his signature grin Lucius tells the struggling Asta to just give up and stop being stubborn, after all, he is about to die.
Thankfully, at that moment, reinforcements arrive, in the form of Noelle, Mimosa, and Nero. Noelle quickly launches a powerful water spell at the enemy’s backs, already powered up in her valkyrie form, however, Sister Lilly stops the attack…with spatial magic?! It’s here that Lucius reveals a major part of his grand plan for humanity, purified devils.
Using his distinct soul magic, the Spade Kingdom wizard was able to defeat the devils within the underworld and change their souls, purifying them for human use. Think of it as a power source if you may. Using these purified devils as a stepping stone Lucius wants to elevate humanity to the next level, with near-invincible bodies, endless wisdom and powerful magic. Lilly is the first of her kind, the “Paladins” as Lucius dubs them.
Ruling over his new race, Lucius will be known as the Greatest Wizard King! And with that powerful speech, Sister Lilly traps Noelle, Mimosa, and Nero within a cube of spatial magic before seemingly killing or teleporting Asta away in front of their powerless eyes. As the chapter ends Lucius announces that his so-called judgement day will come in seven days. And with that, alongside a smug grin towards the recently arrived captains, the villain teleports away and the chapter comes to an end.
Chapter 336 Spoilers
Now that we are all caught up let’s dive right into chapter 336. Warning, however, some raws for the upcoming chapter are already out, so there are confirmed spoilers below; you have been warned.
The chapter seems to start off with Yuno walking into a captain’s meeting, following Lucius’ sudden attack. Aside from the eight captains, Nacht the resident devil expert, and the three witnesses Noelle, Mimosa, and Nero are also present. Yuno looks around in shock as the trio seemingly relive the events they just witnessed.
Following that Nacht jumps straight to the point. Using his shadow magic he can move into the shadow of anyone on the continent. Seeing as how he cannot reach Asta, this can mean two things the first being that he is out of reach, either off the continent or in a different dimension or quite simply the young wizard is dead.
The maybe death of a close friend and ally hits all of those present heavily with Yuno clenching his fists shut tight and Yami on what might be his 30th cigarette, but alas the knights have a job to do and will have to leave the mourning till later. Seeing as how he had just returned from a mission where he was observing and on the lookout for devil activity, Yuno gives what looks to be a brief report.
He notes that during the Spade Kingdom battle there was a devil who was observing their fights with what looked to be a group of high-ranking devils. What Yuno has discovered is that the devils there weren’t just on the scene to observe but also to create a sort of chain that connects them to the underworld. Something Lucius must have needed when he was going in and out of the underworld for over a year.
After giving his report Yuno has a flashback to when he was bestowed the rank of Grand Magic Knight. Back then in typical Asta fashion, the hero cheered his rival on while also assuring him that he’ll be quick to catch up to him.

With that, we jump over to Lucius’ base where he looks to be set up with a throne and four paladins by his side, from the looks of it we can tell that two of the figures belong to Lilly and Damnatio however the other two could be anyone. Many are even theorizing it could be Nacht’s brother Morgen! In the base Adrammelech tells Lucius of how powerful Yuno has grown in the past year, pointing out that he can now kill higher-ranked devils with ease.
Lucius understands that Yuno has become a problem and even states himself that out of all of his predictions the only time the Clover Kingdom manages to win is when Yuno is there for them. To stop this from happening Lucius announces that, to protect world peace, much like Asta, Yuno must die. Meanwhile, Yuno makes a similar promise, stating that he will defeat Lucius and become Wizard King!
Both of these statements would be a perfect way to end the chapter however the chapter instead comes to an end with Asta walking up in a strange sandy place with water beside him?! Could this be hell or maybe as many theorize Yami’s homeland? Needless to say, we’ll see the answer to our question very soon as on the last panel of the chapter Asta can be seen being rescued by an unknown figure!
And with that teasing cliffhanger, the chapter comes to a close! Another week, another cliffhanger!
Release Date
Black Clover 336 is currently expected to release Sunday, September 4th, 2022. As of the writing of this article, there have been no announced delays to the upcoming chapter. Meaning that the official English release of Black Clover will most likely stick to schedule and release as usual.
