Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Will Not Happen

With a score of 8.72 on the MyAnimeList platform and being one of the highest-rated series of the entire 2022, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime has been one of the year’s most welcome surprises. In addition to reviving interest in Cyberpunk 2077 game, the anime series also attracted new players, who started playing the game soon after watching the anime. It should not be a surprise that fans were eagerly waiting for information on any sequel projects that are in production.

Cyberpunk season 2

Famitsu, a well-known Japanese gaming website, talked to Satoru Honma, the producer of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, and Hiroyuki Imaishi, the project’s director at Trigger studios. During the interview, they were asked about different parts of the production, such as how it started and how the content was decided. However, one question, in particular, got a lot of attention on social media.

Honma, who produced the anime, has confirmed that there are no plans for Cyberpunk Edgerunners season 2. He said that the positive response to Edgerunners made him want to continue working with the animation studio in the future. Soon after, though, he said that the Edgerunner was a standalone project, so there are no plans for a second season.

Personally, I’d like to continue working with Japanese studios to produce more animation projects in the future, in part because we’ve received such good feedback. But, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has always been a standalone production, so there’s no “we’re working on season two behind the scenes right now.” Even if we could do a sequel in the future, I don’t know if it would be a second season or a completely different production.

The Cyberpunk 2077 video game inspired CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime series. In 2020, the anime was announced as part of a marketing move for the game, and it has since inspired many fans to go back and play the game again. On September 13, all 10 episodes of the show were put on Netflix.
