Demon Slayer 2nd Season Beat Olympics In Viewership

Demon Slayer is probably the most popular anime and manga franchise in the world right now. After breaking records in the cinema, Demon Slayer anime season 2 was a complete success on TV and streaming services, gathering millions of views for every new episode.

One of the episodes of “Entertainment District Arc” was so popular that it surpassed even the maximum individual ratings for both the regular programming of the Olympic Winter Games – Beijing 2022 and its opening ceremony. The 10th episode of season 2 was probably the best episode of the Demon Slayer anime so far. The episode was watched by almost 18 million viewers in 11 million households.

While Olympics Beijing opening ceremony was also one of the most watched program, but it fell short of Demon Slayer episode 10. The Olympics opening ceremony was seen by 17.23 million people. According to Video Research, Demon Slayer season 2 is currently the 3rd most watched show in Japan at the time of writing.

The Demon Slayer anime is based on a manga series, written and drawn by Koyoharu Gotoge. Studio Ufotable is animating the series. Season 3 of the Demon Slayer anime was announced just after the release of the final episode of Entertainment District Arc. Next season will adapt the Swordsmith Village Arc, and will tell the story of 2 new Hashiras.

The Pillar of Sound, Tengen Uzui, and his three wives are on the case. However, when he soon loses contact with his wives, Tengen fears the worst and enlists the help of Tanjirou Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira to infiltrate the district’s most prominent houses and track down the depraved senior demon.
