Demon Slayer Was Censored In China With Additional Clothes

China is one of the biggest markets for the anime industry. In fact, there are many anime studios which get funding from China. However, China is very strict to the content which can cause any kind of trouble for the government. Hence, all the anime series go through a censorship board before getting a green-lit for streaming on Chinese media platforms.

Just a few months ago, we saw how Dragon Maid anime was censored, and now Demon Slayer season 2 got censored as well. A Weibo (Chinese social media app) user recently posted a comparison between the Japanese release and Chinese release of Demon Slayer season 2. The post caption wrote: “The beauties in Demon Slayer have thick clothes to wear, they are no longer afraid of the cold”. Here are some of the comparison images:

Tengen Wives showed a lot of skin around the chest, so China decided to cover that with some extra clothes.

China has completely banned some anime series like Death Note, and Attack on Titan, and the reason behind is that they promote the values that can cause trouble for the Chinese government.

The demon Slayer anime is based on a manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. The author started writing Demon Slayer manga in Feb 2016 in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The manga ended its serialization in 2020 with all the manga chapters collected in 23 volumes. Studio Ufotable picked up the manga series for an anime adaptation, which aired in April 2019. Season 3 of the series is currently in production.
