Toji Fushiguro is one of the most popular characters introduced in Season 2. Although it seemed like Gojo had dealt with him during the Season 2 Hidden Inventory arc, he has made a return.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is currently adapting the Shibuya arc, which is widely considered by fans as the best arc of the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise.
While numerous fierce battles are happening all over the Shibuya District, one thing that instantly caught the attention of many viewers is the return of Toji Fushiguro.
Toji Fushiguro’s First Death Explained
Toji Fushiguro was born in a major sorcerer clan, the Zenin clan, and was seen as an anomaly due to his lack of cursed energy, similar to Maki Zenin’s situation. He became an assassin, earning the title ” sorcerer killer.”
Soon after, Toji met his wife, and they had a child, Megumi Fushiguro. After his wife’s death, Toji went ahead and sold Megumi to the Zenin clan.
His streak of killing sorcerers came to an end when he fought the strongest sorcerer, Gojo Satoru. Despite having no cursed energy, he managed to give Gojo a hard time in their battle.
The fight between Toji and Gojo takes place when Gojo and Geto are tasked to deliver the star plasma vessel, a girl named Riko Amanai, to master Tengen.
On the other hand, Toji accepts a bounty to kill the star plasma vessel, and to complete his mission, a fight with Gojo was inevitable.
Aware of how powerful Gojo is, Toji takes the strategic route, taking advantage of others to exhaust Gojo. Toji, capitalizing on his absence of cursed energy, catches Gojo off guard with a surprise attack as Gojo couldn’t sense any of his curse energy.
Toji keeps moving around the battlefield, ultimately disappearing from Gojo’s sight. He then unleashes a large amount of fly heads (small curses) around Gojo.
Now, when Gojo was focused on these fly heads, he sneaked in, stabbing Gojo’s throat and beyond.
Toji convinced that he killed Gojo, makes his way out, only to find Gojo standing in front of him. Gojo gained a deep understanding of cursed energy on the verge of death.
Toji immediately attacks Gojo, but Gojo swiftly dodges all his attacks and ends the battle by using his famous purple cursed technique on Toji. This technique was enough for Toji to meet his demise.
How did Toji Fushiguro come back to life?
In the recent chapter of the Shibuya arc, the unthinkable has occurred: Toji is back from the dead. However, this might sound absurd, but there is a proper explanation and a cursed technique behind it.
The mastermind behind Toji’s resurrection is Granny Ogami, an antagonist who has sided with Kenjaku. It seems like Gojo, being sealed in the prison realm, has given freedom to these evil sorcerers to commit crimes freely.
Granny Ogami uses a cursed technique called seance. By using this technique, she can bring back the soul and body of a deceased person.
However, this technique requires someone’s body from the present time. Think of it like a ghost from the afterlife possessing the body of a human.
In her fight against Takuma Ino, she uses seance on her adopted grandchild, turning him into Toji, but only bringing back his body (physical abilities) and not his Soul (personality).

Toji Fushiguro’s Most Awaited Reunion With His Son
As soon as Toji was resurrected, he gained full control of his vessel by defeating Ogami’s grandchild’s soul. Granny was in disbelief as the Body can not overtake someone’s Soul, but in Toji’s case, his body proved to be stronger than the vessel’s soul.
Refusing to obey Granny Ogami’s orders, he kills her and makes his way to find stronger opponents.
Megumi, Toji’s son, is fighting another curse user near this location. This reunion between
Father and son is what the fans have been waiting for a long time.
He makes his way towards sorcerers fighting a special grade curse, “Dagon.” After stealing Maki’s cursed weapon, he exorcises Dagon with ease.
However, while fighting, the séance cursed technique goes wild, making Toji lose control and become a vessel of carnage, continuously looking for the next strongest opponent.
As Nanami, Maki, and Naobito were exhausted after their fight with Dagon, Toji dragged Megumi away to fight him as he was the least injured among others, making him the strongest at that moment.
Megumi starts his battle with the relentless Toji. He deployed shikigami, but they were no match, so he lured Toji into an alley. Toji nearly stabs him but gets thrown off balance by Megumi’s shadow. Megumi manages to wound Toji but fails to land a fatal blow.
Surprisingly, Toji’s humanity resurfaces for a moment; he identifies Megumi and starts a conversation with him, asking for his name, to which Megumi replies with the last name Fushiguro.
Relieved that Megumi didn’t join the Zenin clan, and before he went into complete carnage again, he decided to stab himself so that he wouldn’t lose control again and cause harm to his son.
Megumi could only watch in utter confusion as Toji fell to the ground, blood flowing from his head. Megumi is still unaware that the person lying in front of him is his father.
This sums up what Toji did in the Shibuya arc. Even though his character was initially portrayed as heartless and a jerk, his actions before his demise proved that he had some good left in him.
Getting to live a second time is something every dead person dreams of, Toji, even after achieving it, decides to throw it away in order to protect his son.
