Becky Clements, the president of Tomorrow Studios, has provided some insight into when fans can expect the new season. Once the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved, production could commence, and the second season could be ready to air as early as next year.
“Realistically, hopefully, a year away if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility,” said Clements. “Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air.”
However, having a script ready doesn’t mean that Netflix has green-lit the season 2 of One Piece live-action. But Adelstein and Clements are hopeful that the series will get renewed at some point in the future.
Adelstein further revealed that Netflix is probably planning on how to get about the next story. How many episodes to have in the next season? He suspects that Netflix will give them an answer in one or two weeks. “There seems to be a big impetus to keep this going and to come up with a long-term strategy. So we’re just waiting for that.”
Adelstein says that for “One Piece” to get a second season, it needs to keep getting a lot of viewers. Not just fans of the original manga or anime, but also new people who didn’t know about “One Piece” before.
He says the show is doing well because families are watching it together. The goal is to attract people who aren’t already fans, because the show is good enough to stand on its own, and people really enjoy it.
