The final episode of the Ranking of Kings (also known as Ousama Rankings) came out earlier, and fans are now wondering when the series will return for a new season.
Despite the odd animation style of the series, Ranking of Kings quickly became one of the most popular seasonal anime on Crunchyroll and Funimation. So, it is a no-brainer that the show will return for a 2nd season, however, when it will return? That is the question that fans are wondering.
As you may already know, the popularity of the series and the source material are the two most important factors for a series to get a sequel announcement. When it comes to the popularity of the series, Ranking of Kings checks all the boxes. The series has a rating of 8.79/10 on MyAnimeList, while it is rated 4.6/5 on Crunchyroll.
In the previous Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Ranking of Kings was nominated in 6 categories, and Boji won as the best Boy of the year as well.
Is there enough source material?
The second biggest factor for a series to get a new season is having enough source material (manga or light novel). The anime series is based on a manga written and illustrated by Sōsuke Tōka. It has been serialized since May 2017, and recently released chapter 191 of the manga.
Ousama Ranking adapted till chapter 156 of the manga, so almost 35 chapters of source material is left, which is not enough for a new season. The good news is that the series is still ongoing, and given the popularity of the series, it is only a matter of time when season 2 will come out.
Prediction of Season 2 Release Date
Assuming that the pacing of chapters release by the author of the series remains same, it could take around 2 to 3 more years to have enough material for a 2nd season. If Studio Wit is looking for another 24 episode season, fans won’t be able to get season 2 before 2025.
However, if the production committee decided to make a 12 episode season 2, it is possible that the series might return in late 2023. So, fans should prepare themselves for a pretty long wait.
Where To Read Manga After Season 1?
Given that the anime series won’t be returning for a long time, some fans will be wondering where to read the manga series after season 1? The season 1 of the series adapted till chapter 156, so fans can start reading from chapter 157. The bad news is that despite the fact that 191 manga chapters are released, the English translation is only available till chapter 156. Also, there are no fan translations available for the series as well.
The official translation of the manga till chapter 156 is available on BookWalker.
