Episode 9 Recap

Rent a Girlfriend Episode 9 was titled “Farewell and Girlfriend.” The episode resumes from where it left us in the last episode, as Kazuya leaves the hospital room. Mizuhara is reluctant to tell her grandmother about her fake relationship with Kazuya.

Kazuya abruptly enters the room again with a projector and a laptop. Mizuhara keeps asking him angrily what he is doing. He then plays Mizuhara’s movie in the hospital room and leaves. The movie starts to play, with Mizuhara praying her grandmother opens her eyes.

Her grandmother opens her eyes and sees Mizuhara playing on the screen. After that, she closes her eyes and doesn’t say anything. As soon as the movie ends, Mizuhara starts crying as she lies to her grandmother this whole time, and she cannot muster up the courage to tell her now.

Mizuhara’s grandmother grabs Chizuru’s hand while she is crying. Mizuhara tells her grandmother that she lied to her, on which Mizuhara again pauses with fear of breaking her heart. Her grandmother says she doesn’t care about that lie, as she saw Mizuhara on-screen before passing away.

They both share an emotional moment as she passes away with Mizuhara in her arms. Kazuya is sitting outside as Mizuhara exits the room. She tells him to go home, as she has to start preparations for her grandmother’s funeral.

When Kazuya asks her if she is okay, she gives him the fake actress smile that she is okay. The next day, Kazuya brings his grandmother to the funeral, where Mizuhara is bravely taking everything. They leave early from the funeral.

At the end of the episode, Kazuya returns to his apartment and starts to get reckless as he wants to lend Mizuhara a shoulder. So, he books her for the next day and will try to cheer Mizuhara up.
