Studio Eclypse’s official X (formerly Twitter) account recently published a new post revealing that their project’s new trailer will be released in May 2024.

The release date announcement for Studio Eclypse’s Berserk: The Black Swordsman was accompanied by a new key visual titled “Day of the Eclypse.”

Studio Eclypse is an independent studio that announced in October 2023 that they are working on a 2D adaptation of Berserk stories that have been neglected in this medium. They will start from the beginning, and pre-production has already begun. They shared a teaser trailer on X.

In a previous Tweet, Studio Eclypse revealed that the Berserk trailer and behind-the-scenes footage will be screened in front of a live audience during Otakufest in Saltillo, Mexico. In case you are not aware, Otakufest will be held on May 18 and May 19.

The good news is that while responding to a Tweet about how fans who are not able to be present at Otakufest will be able to see the trailer, the animator working on Berserk: The Black Swordsman, Ale, said that the trailer will be uploaded to their social media accounts as well.

Studio Eclypse is also adapting the AoTnoRequiem manga, which is a fan-made manga that explores an alternative ending to the story. The official title of that anime project is “Attack on Titan: Requiem,” and it is set to release in Fall 2024.

Throughout its history, the Berserk manga has been adapted into various forms of media, including anime series, movies, and video games.

The first anime adaptation, produced by Oriental Light and Magic (OLM), aired in 1997 and covered the Golden Age arc of the manga. While praised for its dark and gritty storytelling, the animation quality was criticized for its inconsistency and limited budget.

In 2012, Studio 4°C released a trilogy of movies titled “Berserk: The Golden Age Arc,” which retold the same story arc with improved visuals and a condensed narrative. However, fans were disappointed by the use of CGI animation, which felt out of place and detracted from the overall viewing experience.

The most recent adaptation, a two-season anime series by GEMBA and Millepensee that aired in 2016 and 2017, attempted to cover the Conviction and Falcon of the Millennium Empire arcs. Unfortunately, the heavy reliance on CGI animation and the rushed pacing led to a largely negative reception from both fans and critics alike.
