Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night is an upcoming anime film stated to be released in 2021. Film is based on SAO: Progressive light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec.

What Sword Art Online Progressive Is About?

Film will cover the events of Aincard’s first floor and the initial encounter between Kirito and Asuna. SAO: Progressive is basically the retelling of a story where viewers will be able to experience both Kirito and Asuna’s point of view. Previously. author stated that he wanted to give the series a modern reboot and that is why he wrote SAO: Progressive light novels.

Is Sword Art Online Progressive Canon?

Yes, SAO: Progressive film is canon. But is it necessary to watch the film? Probably not. As mentioned earlier that this is a reboot of the events of Aincard’s first floor. Film is not necessary to understand the story of franchise.

SAO Progressive Release Date?

Through the official twitter account, it was announced that film will be release on Oct 30, 2021. Although, film is scheduled for same release date, there is a possibility of a delay given the pandemic situation. Film is stated to be 1 hour and 37 minutes long.

Synopsis

In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called: Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game’s tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now
