The popular manhwa series, written and illustrated by Yong-Je Park, The God of High School, has ended after eleven years of publication, as revealed by the WEBTOON platform. According to the statement, an epilogue chapter publication is still pending. A key visual for the finale has been revealed.
In April 2011, Yong-Je Park began publishing the webtoon on Naver Corporation’s Naver Webtoon service, followed by an official English publication on Line Webtoon in July 2014. Since then, the work has inspired a smartphone video game, and an anime adaptation made by MAPPA studios was broadcasted between July and September 2020.
Either Crunchyroll or the production committee is yet to confirm the 2nd season. Unfortunately, because of the lousy pacing in the anime, the series has gotten average reviews on popular review platforms. The God of High school is rated 7.1/10 on MyAnimeList, and 7.3/10 on IMDB.
However, there is still a sleek chance that a season 2 will be greenlit in the future, considering that the Tower of God manhwa series also got season 2 confirmation recently. Although Tower of God has a better rating, 7.6/10 on MyAnimeList. Two more Webtoons, Solo Leveling and Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion, also got anime adaptation announced, which is a sign that anime studios are still willing to invest in Webtoons, and who knows, one day we might get The God of High School season 2 as well.
Synopsis
The “God of High School” tournament, which seeks the best fighter among Korean high school students, has begun. All styles of martial arts, weapons, means and methods of achieving victory are allowed. The award? A wish for anything the winner desires. Taekwondo expert Jin Mo-Ri is invited to participate in the competition. There he befriends karate specialist Han Dae-Wi and swordswoman Yu Mi-Ra, who have come forward for their own personal reasons. Mo-Ri knows that no opponent will be the same and that the fights will be the most ruthless he has ever fought in his life.
But instead of worrying, this prospect excites him beyond belief. Beneath the facade of a transparent test of combat prowess that the tournament purports to be, lurks a secret that has Korean political candidate Park Mu-Jin watching every match with expectant, hungry eyes. Mo-Ri, Dae-Wi and Mi-Ra are about to find out what it really means to become the God of the school.
