Saku tries to be sneaky and buy it while going for groceries, but Yukichi is already out for groceries. There, Yukichi tries a lottery but only wins the complimentary tissues. He returns home and notices that Saku is not there. He imagines her committing suicide in a Kotatsu-less life.

When he opens the door to find her, he hits Saku’s head as she is already outside. She brings home a new Kotatsu she won at the same lottery Yukichi participated in. The Kotatsu has protection around its connection to keep it safe from short-circuit.
Another day, Saku annoys Yukichi because she feels bored. So, Yukichi chokes her to death (not literally, obviously). We later see a package delivered to Saku by her mother, mostly cat food. Her mother loves Yukichi and despises her slovenly daughter.
Saku’s mother asks for a picture of Yukichi, but she has not told home about Yukichi’s gigantification. So, she somehow sends a picture in which he looks small. Another day, Saku again receives a package from her mother, but this time, it is a knife-sharpening stone.

Yukichi is happy receiving it as now; he can cook more efficiently. Saku is on a call with her mother, who wants to hear Yukichi meow. But Yukichi never meows, so she lets her mother go by letting her listen to Yukichi purr.
