Episode 14 Recap
Episode 14, ‘Dark Clouds’ goes into depth about Arnheid, the slave who Einar is in love
with and Ketil’s concubine. When the runaway slave who got revenge on his master is on
horseback and fleeing from the farm, he sees the person he was looking for: his wife Arnheid.
Perhaps the person most shocked wasn’t Arnheid nor Gardar, the runaway slave but Einar
himself.
Can you imagine seeing the person you love reunited with their lover? It must’ve been
heartbreaking. Snake, the head of the guards confronts Gardar, and although he struggled at the
beginning due to underestimating Gardar, he eventually gets the better of him and captured him
to stand trial.
In the midst of the battle between the two, the kindhearted Einar attempted to
attack Snake so that Gardar and Arnheid can run away together and she can finally be free. But
our beloved main character saves the day by restraining him and convincing him not to throw
away his life.
Later on the episode, Arnheid reveals to Thorfinn and Einar about her past life before
enslavement; how she lived happily with Gardar and her son in a peaceful village, and how it all
came crashing down when the men of the village went to war to claim rights of discovered
minerals (that they didn’t need!). With no men to protect the village, the women, kids and elderly
were attacked and the village was looted, and women enslaved.
This episode beautifully shows the after-effects of war and how the losers aren’t just the ones on
the battlefield, but the people left behind.

Vinland Saga season 2 episode 15 will be released on April 18, 2023, at 8:30 am Pacific Time. The next episode will continue to focus on Arnheid, Gardar and Ketils farm before King Canute’s army arrives.
