Warning: The following article contains spoilers about the Chainsaw Man manga.

The much-anticipated “Reze Arc,” considered the series’ most emotional arc, was initially expected to be part of Chainsaw Man Season 2. However, the production committee has opted to adapt it into a film.

While the release date for the Chainsaw Man Reze arc film remains unannounced, author Tatsuki Fujimoto shared a special message during Jump Festa 2024’s Chainsaw Man panel.

Fujimoto revealed that the movie’s main characters, Denji and Reze, draw inspiration from the protagonist and heroine of the “Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade” anime film.

He encouraged fans to watch the film, emphasizing that the upcoming Chainsaw Man -Reze Arc- film’s composition and other aspects mirror those of “Jin Roh.”

For those unfamiliar with “Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade,” the film was released in 1999 and created by Mamoru Oshii.

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, released in 1999, is a Japanese anime film created by Mamoru Oshii. The storyline unfolds in an alternate history where Japan falls under the occupation of Nazi Germany following World War II. The story revolves around a member of an elite anti-terrorist police unit who develops romantic feelings for the sister of a suicide bomber.

In Chainsaw Man’s Reze arc, Reze initially aims to complete her mission and capture Denji’s heart. However, she later develops genuine feelings for him, deciding to abandon her mission and run away with him.

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Favourite Anime and Manga of 2023

Tatsuki Fujimoto, in addition to creating manga, also finds time to watch and read other ongoing anime and manga series. Here are his recommendations:

  • Anime: Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, FLCL Shoegaze
  • Manga: Midori no Yokantachi, School Back, Roca, Welcome Home Alice, PriaL, Utsukushi Kare, Chi No Wadachi, MamaYuyu

It appears Fujimoto has a niche taste in entertainment, as both the anime he recommended didn’t make the top 10 list for the highest-rated anime of Fall 2023.
