Fans of Hunter x Hunter anime and manga franchise know that the creator of the series has taken numerous breaks from drawing, and the reason behind these breaks is the Togashi’s health condition. In a new update, Togashi decided to open up more about his health condition, and how severe it is. Earlier this year, Togashi started drawing Hunter x Hunter again, and he continuously informs fans about his drawing progress via his personal Twitter account.
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Togashi’s manga career, an art exhibition titled “Puzzle” will be held in Japan starting from October 28. Yoshihiro Togashi also shared a letter to fans explaining why he didn’t draw Hunter x Hunter for so long. The letter is translated by a Twitter user:
“We are pleased to announce the upcoming opening of Yoshihiro Togashi’s “PUZZLE” exhibition. I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has read the volumes and given me their warm love and support. It’s hard, right?” Togashi writes.
He continues: “I’m sure you must be thinking, “No, continue the story at once.” I haven’t been able to sit in a chair to draw for about two years, but I have managed to resume writing by abandoning the traditional way of doing things. Everyone, please watch your back. Until two weeks ago, before I wrote this, I was unable to wipe my bu*t (after using the bathroom) and had to take a shower every time I p**ped.”
Togashi also advised the readers to take care of their back “Each movement takes me three to five times longer than a normal person. The back is important. Therefore, I strongly recommend that when you drop something at the next exhibition, you should pick it up in a proper posture.”
Hunter x Hunter creator further shared a sketch portraying himself. He wrote “Currently I can only draw taking this posture”.
When is Hunter x Hunter manga coming back? Currently, there is no exact release date for the manga return. Previously, the HxH manga editor said that Togashi is currently looking to draw 10 chapters, and according to the updates posted on the author’s Twitter, he has already drawn 7 chapters.
Yoshihiro Togashi started Hunter x Hunter manga in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 1998. The manga series has gone on numerous breaks starting in 2006 because of the author’s back pain. Studio Madhouse picked up the manga for anime adaptation. The anime series aired from Oct 2011 to September 2014, having a total of 148 episodes.
