The fall anime 2022 season is just a couple of weeks away. More than 40 anime series (sequels + new) will be broadcasting during the Oct-Dec period. There are too many series to watch, so a popular Japanese website, anime! Anime! asked its readers to rank the upcoming anime they are most excited about.
As worldwide fans know, Japan has a little different taste than the rest of the world when it comes to anime. Chainsaw Man or Bleach are probably the most anticipated shows outside Japan, but Japan has chosen My Hero Academia season 6 as their most anticipated Anime of Fall 2022. Here is the top 10 list:
10. Boochi the Rock!
Bocchi the Rock! is a comedy, slice-of-life anime series produced by CloverWorks, which tells the story of Hitori Gotou, a high school girl who is learning to play the guitar in order to join a band, but she is so timid that she hasn’t made a single friend. Her dream, though, may come true when she meets Nijika Ijichi, a girl who plays the drums and is searching for a new guitarist for her band.
The anime series Bocchi the Rock! is scheduled to release on Oct 9.
9. Golden Kamuy 4th Season
Golden Kamuy is an action-adventure anime from Brain’s Base studio. Anime News Network describes the series as follows:
In the early twentieth century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Sugimoto “Immortal” Saichi scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it. But Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it. Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck – and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa – to survive.
8. Blue Lock
A shonen-sports anime produced by Studio 8bit, scheduled to release on Oct 9. The manga series of Blue Lock has been doing very well in the sales department, and the Blue Lock anime is expected to be the next big sports series after Haikyuu.
The story is set in contemporary Japan, where the national soccer team struggles and places sixteenth at the FIFA World Cup. The Japanese Football Association recruits the mysterious and eccentric coach Jinpachi Ego to assist them in winning World Cup, given the status of Japanese soccer at the moment. According to Jinpachi, Japan lost the World Cup because they lacked an egotistic striker who was driven to score goals.
Jinpachi starts the Blue Lock, a prison-like facility, where 300 gifted strikers from high schools all across Japan are quarantined and compete against one another to determine the next striker. The winner of Blue Lock will be given the exclusive right to play as the striker for the national team, while those who lose will have their eligibility for the team permanently revoked.
7. Bleach TYBW
Making a return after almost 10-year absence from TV, the Bleach TYBW arc is ranked 7th in the most anticipated Anime of Fall 2022. Studio Pierrot is in charge of production, and the first episode will be released on Oct 10.
Quincy’s uprising is shown in the Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War arc. The Quincys were humans able to spot hollows, but they began destroying them rather than purifying them like Shinigami do. Shinigami began assassinating Quincy as they were upsetting the delicate equilibrium of the universe by killing hollows.

It was believed that all of Quincy had been destroyed, with the exception of Ishida’s family, however, later it is shown in the manga that they weren’t killed off but instead were hiding and gaining power. They declared war on the Soul society after the defeat of Aizen.
6. Tiger & Bunny Season 2 Part 2
Netflix’s Tiger and Bunny season 2 part 2 is the 6th most anticipated anime of the season, scheduled to release on Oct 7.
Sternbild City is home to people called “Next,” who use their special abilities to protect the people as superheroes. These heroes solve cases and save lives so they can wear sponsor logos or acquire “hero points.” Their activities are documented on the popular program “Hero TV,” which picks the “King of Heroes” in a yearly ranking. The veteran hero Wild Tiger has always preferred to work alone, but now he’s been assigned the rookie Barnaby Brooks Jr., who has a different perspective on being a superhero.
5. IDOLiSH7: Third Beat!
IDOLiSH7: Third Beat! is an idol-music genre anime series that has not seen much success overseas, but the series is rated highly in Japan.
Kujo starts carrying out his plans to defame Gaku and Ryu, in an attempt to make Tenn become a solo artist to better achieve his goal of nurturing the idol who will surpass the missing Zero. Meanwhile, a new group ZOOL makes their debut, but they’re giving the other idols the cold shoulder. Worse is when more of the past – especially related to Zero’s lyricist Haruki Sakura – continues to surface. And it seems ZOOL’s manager, Ryo Tsukumo, also has his own evil plans.
4. Urusei Yatsura Reboot
The reboot of Urusei Yatsura, a popular rom-com anime series, occupies the 4th spot on this list.
Urusei Yatsura is the story of the unluckiest and most lecherous young man alive, Ataru Moroboshi. When aliens decide to invade Earth, Ataru is randomly selected to defend his planet by playing a game of the aliens’ national sport, tag. Should he win, the world shall be saved. However, Ataru is motivated for far less noble reasons, as the one he plays against is revealed to be the curvaceous alien princess, Lum. The game goes for 10 days, and on the last day, Ataru, motivated by his girlfriend assuring him marriage (and consequently, a marriage night one can assume) should he win, finally catches Lum. However, with his victory he gives a cry of joy for his coming marriage, which is misinterpreted by Lum to be a marriage proposal. She promptly agrees, beginning the two’s “marriage” together.
3. Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man is one of the highly anticipated anime series for Fall 2022. Because of the success of the Chainsaw Man manga, the series already has a large fan base who are eagerly looking forward to the anime adaptation. The first episode of the Chainsaw Man anime will release on Oct 11.
The series follows the story of Denji, a boy who wants to live a simple life, but due to a certain chain of events, he is forced to become a hitman. Denji forms a contract with his pet devil, which gives Denji the ability to turn into Chainsaw Man. He then fights against other devils in order to survive.
2. Spy x Family Part 2
Just like Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family already had a large fan following because of the manga’s success. When Spy x Family anime series was released, it became an instant hit. The series will return for part 2 on Oct 1 (13 episodes).
The series follows Loid Forger, a spy who must build a false family in order to complete his mission. He is unaware, however, that his chosen wife is a covert assassin and that his adopted child, Anya, is a mind reader.
1. My Hero Academia Season 6
Superhero anime series, My Hero Academia season 6 is the most anticipated anime series of Fall 2022, according to Japanese anime fans. The first episode of MHA season 6 will be released on Oct 1.
Mankind has developed superpowers known as “Quirks” with 80% of the population having some kind of superpower. These new abilities see the rise of both superheroes and villains. A prestigious school known as the The Hero Academy trains superpowered hopefuls into the heroes the world needs. Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he’s part the 20% without a Quirk. Unwilling to give up his dream, he plans to take the exam and be accepted into a high school for budding heroes. Through a series of serendipitous events, he catches the eye of the greatest hero, All Might, who agrees to train him.
