It looks like Mappa is taking another project from Studio Wit (remember Attack on Titan?). According to recent rumors circulating in the social media, Vinland Saga season 2 could get a studio change from Studio Wit to Studio Mappa.
Mappa Studio is currently working on 6 anime projects, so, it is a little bit unusual that they are overtaking more anime projects. However, according to a Twitter user @animehype, the core animation staff that worked on Vinland Saga season 1 has moved from the Wit studio to Mappa studio. So, even if the studio change rumor is true, we won’t be seeing too much difference in art style, considering that the staff will remain the same.
The creator of the Vinland Saga manga series previously assured that season 2 will be completely faithful to the manga. The director of the anime series also confirmed that the core anime staff will remain the same. On July 7, 2021, the official Twitter account of Vinland Saga announced that the series will be getting a 2nd season. Unfortunately, there is still no news on the released date yet.
In case you missed it, Studio Mappa is currently working on the following projects:
- Attack on Titan final season part 2
- Chainsaw Man
- Kakegurui Twin
- Zombieland Saga movie
- Yuri on Ice movie
- Jigokuraku
The Vinland Saga anime is based on a manga series, written and drawn by Makoto Yukimura. Wit Studio adapted the series into anime, which aired in Decemeber 2019.
As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band’s leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Throfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery … the land Leif called Vinland.
