THE Bleach TYBW arc will have 52 episodes, which will be aired in 4 parts (cours). Each part will have 13 episodes. We don’t know whether all cours will air consecutively or if there will be breaks after every 13 episodes.
The plot of Bleach’s Thousand-year blood war revolves around the war between the Shinigami and Quincy, which are under the command of Yhwach and call themselves Sternritter. Below is the short summary of previous arcs to refresh your memories of Bleach anime.
Agent of the Shinigami arc:
The first episode of the series introduces us to Ichigo, who somehow has the power to see the souls of people who have been deceased. Ichigo meets Rukia, who is looking for a hollow. However, when the hollow appears, Rukia gets injured and is forced to transfer her powers to Ichigo.
We also meet Ichigo’s school friends Orihime, Chad, and Uryu Ishida, all characters that will become important later in the story. We also saw characters like Urahara Kisuke, who helps Ichigo train his powers to help soul society.
Soul Society Arc:
Many fans and viewers believe this was one of the best bleach arcs, if not the best. The central plot of the arc revolves around rescuing Rukia, who has been detained and taken back to soul society by her brother Byakuya Kuchiki and her childhood friend Renji Abarai.
Rukia was ordered to be executed by the central 46, the leaders of the soul society. To protect Rukia, Ichigo trains under Urahara, who teaches her basic fighting techniques to help him stay on equal ground with the Gotei 13, the strongest people in the soul society.
However, an accident occurs during his training, and he nearly becomes a Hollow instead. Thankfully, he can recover and become a fully-fledged Shinigami, obtaining the name of his Zanpakuto, Zangetsu.
In his fight with Rukia’s older brother Byakuya, he unlocks his Bankai, which is a power only the 13 captains or the strongest people in soul society can obtain which can take up to 10 years to get but due to Yoruichi’s training method, he unlocks it in 3 days.
Arrancar Arc
Arrancar arc is the longest arc in bleach, consisting of more than 120 episodes. The story follows up after Aizen betrays Soul Society to obtain the Hogyoku, which will make him immortal. Aizen decides to bring down Ichigo’s hometown Karakura.
Orihime gets kidnapped by the Espada, who are under the command of the Aizen. Meanwhile, Ichigo starts having trouble with his powers and meets individuals known as Visored, who have the same hollow mask as Ichigo.
On the other hand, Gotei 13 and Espada prepare for a battle in the fake Karakura town to stop Aizen from his ulterior motives and to save Soul Society.
The final battle between Ichigo and Aizen is an iconic scene. Ichigo ultimately wins the fight but loses his spiritual abilities and Shinigami’s powers.
The Lost Substitute Shinigami Arc
After his fight with Aizen, Ichigo no longer possesses his Shinigami powers which means he cannot see Rukia or anyone from the soul society anymore. After more than a year, he has returned to his everyday school life.
Now in 3rd year of high school, Ichigo crosses paths with Kugo Ginjo, a member of Xcution, who tells Ichigo that he can bring his power back through full bringing. On the other hand, Uryu gets attacked by an unknown person, which causes him to get hospitalized.
Meanwhile, Ichigo encounters Tsukishima, who has the power to alter memories. Towards the end, we discover that Ginjo and Tsukishima are friends and betray Ichigo for having his powers. But in the end, Urahara comes up with a way to restore Ichigo’s power, and finally, members of the Soul Society help Ichigo take down the enemies.
