Chainsaw Man Author Promotes Yaoi Manga on Twitter

Gone are the days when Yuri and Yaoi were considered taboo genres in the manga industry, with fans hesitant to openly discuss their appreciation for them. Today, otaku culture continues to evolve, and people’s tastes diversify. Even a Yaoi movie has received a sequel announcement! However, it’s still relatively rare for a mainstream manga artist to promote such genres, which is why recent events have left fans pleasantly surprised.

Chainsaw Man author Tatsuki Fujimoto recently took to his official Twitter account (@nagayama_koharu) to share his enthusiasm for a Yaoi manga, encouraging his fans to give it a read!

A few days ago, Tatsuki Fujimoto shared a post on his official Twitter account. The Tweet was:

In his tweet, Tatsuki Fujimoto revealed that the Yaoi comic book he’s promoting is a one-shot manga (a single chapter) created by one of his assistants who works on the backgrounds for Chainsaw Man’s official manga.

Fujimoto mentioned that the manga is intended for an 18+ audience but is still a thrilling read. He enthusiastically encouraged his fans to check out this adult Yaoi manga and expressed gratitude in his tweet.

The tweet has since garnered nearly five million views and close to three thousand retweets. In response, fans have embraced Fujimoto-sensei’s recommendation, enthusiastically declaring their readiness to dive into this Yaoi manga.

Is Promoting Such a Content Fair?

Upon seeing this post, one might initially assume that Fujimoto-sensei’s assistant simply leveraged their sensei’s popular Twitter account to promote their own work, given that adult content is not suited for everyone. However, it’s important to note that it’s quite common for manga artists to endorse adult media. In fact, many renowned manga artists begin their careers by publishing one-shot doujinshi. A few prominent examples include:

  • Ken Akamatsu: The author of “Love Hina” and “Negima” started as an adult doujin artist under the name “Awa Draft”. His early works also affect his present work, as he mainly draws ecchi manga now.
  • Go Nagai: The author of “Devilman” started as an adult doujin artist. His work was pretty explicit, affecting his present manga works, too.

But these manga artists don’t prefer to discuss their early adult doujin projects as this is considered a bad stereotype in Japan. However, publishing such adult work in Japan is legal.

Tatsuki Fujimoto is a relatively new manga artist who started with his one-shot “Love is Blind” in 2014. His later popularity exploded with his works like “Chainsaw Man” and “Fire Punch”, out of which Chainsaw Man received an adaptation and has mixed reviews on its performance. His Twitter account was viral from the start and even got banned once.
