It’s been just two months since the highly-anticipated return of the beloved manga series Hunter x Hunter in Weekly Shonen Jump. Fans were overjoyed to see the release of new chapters on a weekly basis, and it seemed like the mangaka’s health had significantly improved. Togashi’s decision to bring on more staff to assist with the manga drawings seemed to be paying off. However, according to a recent leak, it looks like fans will have to prepare for another break in the series.

A recent leak from the upcoming Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, which is scheduled to release on December 26, confirms that because of mangaka’s health issue, he won’t be able to provide weekly manga chapters. For health reasons, Hunter x Hunter won’t be serialized weekly starting from chapter 401 onwards.
According to the announcement, Togashi sensei will continue to write Hunter x Hunter and the editorial department will continue to support him until the end of the manga. The official announcement is as follows:
“Thanks for reading HUNTER x HUNTER. Regarding the publication of the manga, chapter 401 and following, we have talked with Togashi-sensei about his state of health, and as a result, we have decided to publish HUNTER x HUNTER in a format other than weekly serialization. Togashi-sensei will continue to write the following chapters, and the editorial department will continue to support him until the completion of the manga. Specific publication dates and methods will be announced in future issues of Weekly Shonen Jump. Thank you for his continued support of HUNTER x HUNTER.”
Because of hectic manga schedules, the majority of manga authors often take breaks in between releasing the chapters. For example, Eiichiro Oda takes 1 week break after releasing 3 manga chapters. Similarly, Black Clover’s authors recently took a 3-month break in order to prepare for the final arc of the series. The silver lining is that Togashi sensei is still willing to draw the manga and hopefully we will see the end of the series, including the highly anticipated Dark Continent Arc. We hope the mangaka is able to get the rest and care they need in order to make a full recovery.
