Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Is Nobara Dead? – Explained

Kugisaki Nobara is one of the latest characters from Jujutsu Kaisen who might join Nanami in the afterlife.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Is Nobara Dead? Explained

In episode 18, Jujutsu Kaisen fans bid farewell to Nanami, a fan-favorite character from the series, who Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration killed.

Unfortunately, the recent episode (episode 19) might have killed another character, and the culprit is again the special-grade curse, Mahito.

In episode 19, the battle continues between Nobara Kugisaki and Mahito, as she has some plans to damage this annoying cursed spirit.

As she uses her “Resonance” cursed technique on Mahito, she realizes the one she is fighting is a phony (clone), and it cannot use Idle Transfiguration.

As this copy realizes it has been outdone, it runs towards the original Mahito. As they are about to merge, they replace one another, and now, the original Mahito is going after Nobara.

Itadori yells at Nobara to run, but the original Mahito manages to touch Nobara’s face, which activates his Idle Transfiguration. After this, we hear a splash as Nobara is on the ground, motionless.

Has Nobara Kugisaki Died?

Long story short, the answer to this question is unknown. After Nobara was hit with Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration, her whole body didn’t get converted into a transfigured human and burst, just like Nanami’s did.

Instead, only a part of her face was affected by this. Meaning the Idle Transfiguration didn’t have a complete effect on her.

Her current state can be compared to Megumi’s state when he was hit by Mahoraga, i.e., “a suspended death” situation, which needs immediate medical attention.

The Future of Kugisaki Nobara (SPOILERS!)

is nobara dead

After she was hit with Mahito’s cursed technique, Itadori’s mind came to a standstill as he is now in a complete mental breakdown.

But fortunately, Todo arrives to pull him out of his breakdown. Accompanying him is Arata Nitta, a first-year jujutsu sorcerer who specializes in “Reverse Cursed Technique.”

He tries to heal Nobara immediately, but due to her severe injury, he only manages to stop Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration from spreading.

Although Arata specializes in “Reverse Cursed Technique,” he is still a first-year student. What Nobara needs right now is an expert in this technique like Shoko or Okkutsu.

After leaving Aoi behind, Arata takes Nobara with him to safety, not promising her survival.

The last time Nobara was mentioned in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga was in chapter 144. During the Culling Games, Yuji Itadori asks Megumi about what happened to Nobara. Megumi doesn’t reply but gives a worrisome look.

As of the latest chapter (chapter 244), Nobara has not returned, so the future is still uncertain regarding her survival.

It is crucial to point out that Jujutsu Kaisen author Akutami Gege, in an interview, said that among Gojo and the first years, either one person will die or everyone will die except for one person.

With Megumi, Nobara, and Gojo’s status being unknown, it looks like fans will be getting a somewhat darker ending to the series.
