Black Clover’s latest chapter has now officially dropped, and what a chapter! It was a fun training-based chapter that introduced some interesting new characters. But of course, that isn’t what we are here to talk about today. Instead, we’ve got to address the elephant in the room, that cliffhanger ending!
But of course, before we do, here is a major spoiler warning for the entirety of Black Clover’s final arc. If you don’t want to get spoiled, I’d suggest checking out the chapter and returning. You can find official sources to read the manga at the end of the article.
Now with that out of the way let’s get into what on Earth just happened in the final pages of Black Clover, chapter 341. Captain Yami did what!?
Recap
In the final pages of chapter 341, Ichika (Yami’s Sister) reveals to Asta that her elder brother, the man we know as Captain Yami killed their entire clan! That’s right, in a scene that sounds like it comes straight from Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto series, Captain Yami apparently annihilated his entire clan, Itachi style.
But let’s backtrack for a moment and go over just exactly how we reached this shocking turn of events. As we know, due to a now devil-infused Lucius serving Sister Lily, Asta finds himself teleported and injured in the Land of the Sun. Captain Yami’s country of origin that he was seemingly pulled away from one day. Luckily Asta is found by Ryudo Ryuya and Ichika Yami, a childhood friend of the captain, and get this, his younger sister!
We also learn that Yami is actually the captain’s last name, making his actual name, Sukehiro. This could just be chalked up to confusion in culture when he arrived in the Clover kingdom, but with the info we have now, it could mean more. Thanks to his ability to see everything that is happening at the moment, clairvoyance, the shogun of the country, Ryuya, already knows Asta and how he ended up here. He gets the boy healed up and even promises to help train him alongside Ichika. Thus, that’s how we’ve reached this confession of sorts from Ichika!
Did Yami Really Kill All of His Clan?
Although it may be hard to believe, with how little we know of Captain Yami, or as we now know him, Sukehiro, the man could have actually done the deed. I mean, he never properly explains how exactly he ended up in the Clover kingdom, describing it as simply getting washed away. And why has he never attempted to return if he were truly lost? Who knows, perhaps he was banished from the country before eventually washing up on the Clover Kingdom.
If Captain Yami were truly lost, wouldn’t it make sense for the Land of the Sun to reach out to him in any way? We know that Ryuya can see what happens in the Clover kingdom, hell, he even knows that Sukehiro is alive, so why never try to reach out?
Yuki Tabata has used this secret past or hidden identity more than once now within Black Clover, with William, who was host to the rebel elf Patri and Julius, who shares a body with the evil Lucius. So it’s not too much of a stretch to think that Captain Yami could have a dark and terrible past or even a whole separate personality. Maybe upon arrival to the Clover Kingdom, he decided to become a new man and atone for his sins by simply going by Yami.
Perhaps he didn’t even do it and was framed, or in true Itachi fashion, he had a reason and was actually a hero?! No matter the case, one thing is for sure, that reveal gave us more questions than answers! Questions we can assume won’t be answered for another two weeks as Black Clover is going on a one-week break! Hold onto all those questions because chapter 342 of Black Clover will surely answer some of them with a well-needed flashback!
